Unholy Deathknight DPS (3.3.3)

Post  Ozmademos on Sat May 08, 2010 1:01 am

This post is intended to help those not familiar with alot of the Unholy DK mechanics to get a simple overview

Spec
0/17/54 is the spec, but it isnt the only viable spec. there is also a blood/unholy spec that works very well for new 80s, but since the tier 9 gear is so easy to get at this point. that spec is only useful for a few weeks before falling behind in damage.

Here's the link: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#jZG0xx0MZfM0Ixcdg0zx0uIqo:LsbVm0
Just cut and paste it. It leaves no points open for you to choose something extra... sorry
***Note: The Link has Glyphs Already in there for You***

Necrosis
If you really wanted to, you could take the points from this and put them into something for utility at a little loss in damage, such as Ghoul Frenzy or Morbidity

Ghoul Frenzy
Your Ghoul is a significant part of you damage. If you find you have trouble keeping him alive (no pun intended!) then go for this talent.

Morbidity
This is a great gain in AoE fights, but a loss for single target dps.

Sigils

Sigil of the Hanged Man
Basically, the go-to sigil for normal boss fights... but if you dont think you can keep up the buff, then go with Sigil of Virulence.

Sigil of Virulence
Best for movement fights.

Stats

Hit: you'll need 8%, or 263 hit rating (7% if you're a Draenei)

Expertise: it's not anything you need to stack, but will 6.5% cap it, or 214 expertise rating (note, though, that being a human or dwarf and using certain weapons can help you get capped faster).

Strength: give you all your Attack Power. most important stat

Crit: makes your hits hit bigger every so often, but relatively low on the totem pole.

Armor Pen: it's good, better than Crit, but not as good as Strength or Haste.

Haste: most important stat under Hit and Strength, because it works so well with Icy Veins.

Attack Power: you'll get it from strength

Agility: not all that big for dps. the AP and Crit from Agil isnt as good as just getting the Str by itself

Armor: wear plate =)

Runeforging

Two-hander: Fallen Crusader

Gems

Meta: Relentless (+21 Agil and +3% crit dmg)
Red: Bold (+20 Str)
Yellow: Etched (+10 Str and +10 Hit) or Rigid (+16 Hit) if you arent hit capped. Otherwise, you're better off going for all red.
Blue: Nightmare Tear (obviously you can only get just one, so put it in a good slot!)

Rotation

Luckily for Unholy, there tends to be a rotation of sorts.
For Single Targets:

1 ) Plague Strike
2 ) Icy Touch
3 ) Blood Strike
4 ) Scourge Strike
5 ) Blood Strike
6 ) Death Coil
7 ) Horn of Winter (if you find everything else is on cooldown)
8 ) Go to 4

For Multi-Targets:
1 ) Icy Touch
2 ) Plague Strike
3 ) Pestilence
4 ) Death and Decay
5 ) Death Coil
7 ) Horn of Winter
8 ) Scourge Strike
9 ) Blood Strike
10 ) Blood Boil
Then, it's a matter of keeping up Scourge Strike, Death Coils (when you have the Runic Power), Pestilence, and Death and Decay.
