Demonology Warlock (3.3.3)

Post  Ozmademos on Tue May 04, 2010 10:34 pm

This post is intended to help those not familiar with Demonology Warlock mechanics to get a simple overview

Spec

Arguably, there are several possible specs... but the one here is a non-pvp deep Demo build with raid support. (because it makes sense, and it's nice)

0/56/15 is the spec
Here's the link: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#IZ0GchkAbibsguAoE00V:oTNzV

Just cut and paste it. It leaves a few points open for you to choose something extra...
***Note: The Link has Glyphs Already in there for You***

As you can see... there isnt much wiggle room for the Demo build or Glyphs. Reason being, Demonology Warlocks generally have several very different ways they can go. They can focus on a hybrid Destro-Demo builds (which really isnt technically a Demo spec since almost half the points are between the two specs), PvP-Demo spec (which I'm not concerned with here), and Non-raid-support Demo (which doesnt significantly change your dps, just takes away buffs the raid would otherwise get from you). So, each talent point and each glyph has a specific purpose to increase your dps to its fullest ability.

Stats

Hit: you'll need 17%, or 446 hit rating (it is, however possible to get away with a little less with certain raid make-ups like having a Draenei with you, or a shadow priest or moonkin)

Spell Power: the stuff that makes the pew pew go PEW PEW!

Crit: most useful because of the Demonic Pact. Your Fel Guard gets a percentage of your Spell Power, Crit, and Hit.
Haste: wouldnt kill your dps to have it, but better to get crit and spirit. your main nukes (Shadowbolt and Soulfire will have relatively low cast times)

Spirit: similar benefit with haste, although it also provides some extra spell power

Armor: cloth (most likely with hit and/or crit)

Pet

The Doomguard does the most dps of any pet, but requires a quest chain and doesnt contribute to many deep Demo talents... See: http://www.wowwiki.com/Doomguard_(warlock_minion)

Infernals do high dps too, but only last a short time, need a quest to get it too, and again, doesnt activate the deep Demo talents... See: http://www.wowwiki.com/Infernal_(warlock_minion)

Fel Guard all the way! Imp is for Destro, Succubus is PvP, Fel Hound is Affliction, Void guy is for leveling/solo tanking.

Gems

Meta: Chaotic (+21 Crit and +3% crit dmg)
Red: Runed (+23 SP) or Veiled (+12 SP and +10 hit) if you're not hit capped
Yellow: Rigid (+20 Hit), Veiled (+12 SP and +10 Hit), Potent (+12 SP and +10 Crit), or Reckless (+12 SP and +10 Haste)
Blue: Purified (+12 SP and +10 Spirit)

Priority (not a rotation)

Now, if the mob is over 35% health:
1 ) Curse of Agony
2 ) Corruption
3 ) Immolate
4 ) Shadow bolt (or Incinerate if the Shadow bolt debuff is up)

If the mob is under 35% health:
1 ) Curse of Agony
2 ) Corruption
3 ) Immolate
4) Soul Fire

Biggest thing to watch for are the debuffs on the boss.
